Passengers arrive at the Air Whitsundays terminal a half hour prior to departure to check in. A half hour later you are boarding the plane and taking off for your scenic Whitsunday Islands, Great Barrier Reef and Whitehaven Beach experience.
Flying up the Whitsunday Passage you are able to see the west coast of Hook Island, the Whitsunday Passage, Daydream Island, South Molle Island, mid and North Molle islands, Langford Reef, Hayman Island before flying along part of the east coast of Hook Island.
From here the pilot will fly out to Bait Reef, Hook Reef and across two massive reefs to do a touch and go at Hardys Reef where the plane will come down for a landing, skim across the water before taking off again.
This allows you to obtain photos from a varying level of altitude which makes things a little more interesting when you are viewing the photos.
After the touch and go the plane will do a flyover of Heart Reef which is aptly named because it is almost a perfect love heart shape.
Gaining altitude the plane flies over the massive reef that is Hook Reef on the way to Whitehaven Beach.
The plane will do some banking over Whitehaven Beach before flying on over various islands to Shute Harbour.
After a quick glimpse of Airlie Beach the plane lands back at the Whitsundays airport you started from.
For those who would like a more extensive trip that lands at the Great Barrier Reef and includes time on Whitehaven Beach please look at the Panorama flight.
