Unethical Advertising
False Whitsundays Price Advertising
As you are probably aware by now there are many different prices for Whitsundays boats on many different web sites. There are a lot of web sites that do not update their pricing in line with operators annual price increases.
Unfortunately some internet marketing sites and locally based Whitsundays booking services have resorted to knowingly advertising false prices on their web sites in an effort to get you to enquire with them. When you enquire you are told that the price advertised was correct at the time of publishing and they then offer you the correct price with a very small discount.
In our opinion this is both dishonest and unethical.
Also in an effort to convince you to deal with them they will also rely heavily on the fact that they are based in Airlie Beach and have "local knowledge" despite the fact that they have a huge turnover of staff and many of their staff are not from Airlie Beach and are travelers themselves.
You will see a web site stating they are: "the original and the best" despite the fact their web site and business has not been on the market for very long at all......how could they be the original and the best, they are a relatively new business.
Oz Magic gaurantees you that the prices shown are correct and will be honoured, we will not advertise a price and then tell you "it was correct at the time of publishing" or "that is a standby rate only" or "the price has just gone up" .......we will honour the price shown (excluding enquiries for future dates beyond the 31st March each year, rates for the new season after the 31st March each year must be quoted for). To explain this to you we should explain that the vast majority of operators change their pricing on the 31st of March each year for the forthcoming season so if your travel date is beyond 31st March on any year we will have to quote for you.
We will not list the web sites using unethical advertising because it would leave us open to legal action, you will be able to see them for yourself as you look around. They are the sites that seem cheaper than everyone else. Sites that use catchy slogans and try to convince you they are locals.
Basically if you see a web site advertising prices that a much cheaper than most of the other web sites you see you must realise that the web sites showing the much cheaper prices are the sites we have talked about here who do not update their prices in line with operators change of rates. Unfortunately it seems some of these sites knowingly leave old rates on their pages.
There is no web site that can offer you greatly reduced rates over another web site. They simply do not have that ability. All businesses are restricted by the boat owners set rates and can only discount their own renumeration given to them by the boat owner. As a rule the boat owner will not discount their own product.
Put them to the test demand the advertised rate
If you see a web site that is advertising a specific price, you should enquire with them and if they send you back a different rate and an excuse then you should demand the advertised rate. If they do not honour the rate they have advertised you should treat them with extreme caution and enquire with a different business.
It is up to you who you deal with but if a business cannot advertise correct rates or rates that they will honour then we would suggest you should not deal with that business.
Your personal details
Don't forget that when making a booking for a Whitsundays sailing trip you will have to entrust your personal details and credit card information to the business that you choose to book with. You need to keep this in mind when choosing a business to deal with. If a business knowingly advertises false prices and then does not honour their own advertised price would you trust them with your important personal information?
